Frequently Asked Questions

Who was Maharishi Mahesh Yogi?

Maharishi, founder of Maharishi University of Enlightenment, was the founder of the Transcendental Meditation® (TM®) program and numerous worldwide organizations to teach the TM Technique® and its advanced programs. In doing so, he revived the ancient meditative practices from the Vedic Tradition of India, bringing this knowledge out of the realm of mysticism and religious interpretation, and encouraging scientific scrutiny. He created a systematic method of instruction, making these techniques accessible to people of all cultures, religions, lifestyles, and educational backgrounds. The hallmark of Transcendental Meditation is its ease and simplicity. This is precisely why the TM Technique is so effective, and anyone can enjoy benefits right from the start. To ensure the effectiveness of the TM Technique, Maharishi also established protocols for creating and certifying TM Teachers, and founded organizations which he authorized to continue his legacy.

What is Maharishi Vedic Science?

Maharishi restored and commented on a vast range of ancient literature known as the Vedic Tradition of knowledge. Because of the uniqueness of his insights, and his systematic and scientifically-based application of this knowledge to the needs of modern life, we refer to his body of knowledge as Maharishi Vedic Science.

Why is MUE offering courses for women?

Maharishi University of Enlightenment's courses—taught by women, for women—create an environment that is particularly enriching and empowering for women. Our faculty and students have noticed a unique dynamic when in a group of women, whether in-person or virtual: students are more likely to express themselves freely, the interactions are nurturing, and a deeper bond is created. MUE offers women and girls a unique  opportunity.

Why is the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique a prerequisite for some of the MUE courses? Can someone who practices another method of meditation take MUE courses?

There are many types of meditation techniques, each having distinct methods and effects. Most people understand the importance of a meditation practice, whether for mental or physical health, or spiritual growth. MUE welcomes any woman who is interested in our programs, regardless of what type of meditation technique she practices. However, there are some courses for which the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique is a prerequisite. This is because the lessons refer to specific experiences and principles that are familiar to those who practice the TM Technique.
