Working with popular programs we will improve our skills, and our ability to adapt to any software design platform.

Conscious Computing Basics a Design Workshop

Elevate your computing skills, and optimize workflow in a nurturing 2-day intensive. In this hands-on environment, we will cover the technical skills and design basics that will help you grow confidently and consciously in your communications. In each 3 hour session you will be guided through activities and exercises that build skills and essential understanding.
  • Level: Beginner - All levels

  • When: 2 p.m. Eastern US 
  • Sessions:  3 hours per session, using Zoom. Videos will be recorded for those who can not attend live.

  • Course Participants: Please have a stable internet connection and a device where you can type comfortably. Mac and Windows based computers and tablets are all acceptable.

Why should I take this course?

Do you have a project you might like to realize? Is there a photo book, presentation or social media content you might like to create? Whatever your stage of life or career this intensive will help you design, and communicate more beautifully and effectively. 

Registrants will receive a questionnaire so they can share their needs and challenges in the area of presentations, graphics, and social media design. 
Many of us learn to perform tasks on computers before we understand their workings. With little to no formal training we often find ourselves lacking in the language and foundations that provide us with the computing confidence we desire. 

• Beginners - Our computer basics workshop is an experience of confidence building exercises and is perfect for workplace beginners or to refresh your communications  skills.
• Intermediate - For intermediate users this workshop is a chance to enhance your design language, engage in lively conversations, and apply best practices to your presentations.
• Evergreen computing basics – No matter how fast AI moves, or platforms move from still images to animations and videos; knowing these basics will always be useful. 
• Consciousness-based design  – The consciousness-based approach to computer design provides us with self-awareness, helping us make healthier and more efficient choices that help us communicate our message effectively  to diverse audiences.

Your Instructor

Mariette Papic

Mariette brings 20+ years of computing experience to this workshop. As a core member of the MUE staff many of you know Mariette's work as a designer and producer of popular consciousness-based courses, including The Journey of Enlightenment with Ann Purcell and Writing from Within with Elizabeth Taggart. As a technologist and artist Mariette has conducted workshops for universities, corporations and in her personalized coaching services.  

As a writer Mariette has focused on the intersection of emergent technologies and their role in the arts. She has had her essays and interviews published by museums, galleries, and in periodicals. She has conducted workshops for at-risk youth through Leave Out Violence, US, and in the Republic of Mali as part of Andy Lin's Other Worlds project, developing a photography program for their indigenous-language pedagogy, which reaches over 200 satellite programs throughout the Sahel.

Mariette is a Core Steward of the Design Science Studio community, an educational incubator fiscally sponsored by the Buckminster Fuller Institute, and a lead trainer of their AI model, gAIa. Mariette serves as the Director of Outreach, Information and Inspiration for Maharishi University of Enlightenment.

  • Create Elevating Graphics

    We will build practical skills for our daily use, improving our understanding of file creation, storage, organization, and sharing. We will define and automate tasks involved in creating new documents and presentations, examining the role of styles and types of formatting. 

  • Establish Visual Design Habits 

    In every workshop session we will cover tips for improving our productivity, and for easily creating signature looks. We will explore easy time management and useful tools for maintaining visual continuity.  Learn from actual examples of MUE presentations, to help you build similar looks. 

  • Increase Efficiency

    We will learn how to use and apply styles, and how to use keyboard and software shortcuts. Together we will explore preferences and settings, identifying opportunities available for customizing templates. Utilizing productivity and AI features we will quickly create content for use across all major platforms with little effort.
